09/07/13: Dr Hauschka vs Madara

A little while ago, after I'd tested out the sample pots that Dr Hauschka kindly sent to me, I decided that I would order the full size.  I didn't want to go trying out tonnes of samples and I was almost out of the mineral foundation that I had been using and the 00 shade had served me well.

However, when I went to order it, I was able to pick up a small sample of the Madara Moonflower Rose Beige which has also been on my radar for a while.

Now that I have them both here to test, I thought I would share a few comparison swatches.

The Dr Hauschka is more yellowy and I think matches my skin better.  However, I do like how the Madara livens up my skin a bit - I think it would be great for pale complexions with a pinker undertone than I have, but even on me, it doesn't look unnatural.  It's pretty clever that it is able to blend in, as to start with it looks about five shades too dark!

The two smell pretty similar once blended in, but to start with the Madara has a much stronger smell.  To me, it smells very much fresh and grassy - not unpleasant, but not sweet either.  The Dr Hauschka is a gentler softer smell.  If smells bother you, I'd choose the Dr Hauschka.

Good for me?
In terms of coverage, they are roughly the same and I'm impressed with both of them.  Although they both have alcohol high up in the ingredient list, I've not found either of them to dry my skin out.  The Madara does hold a few more ingredients that I want to look into more, but I am thinking of buying the Madara full size, or at least seeing if they do mini sizes for more thorough testing.

Good for you?
The Madara will set you back £23.00 from Naturismo for 50ml, while the Dr Hauschka is £17.96 (RRP £19.95).   In terms of shading for pale faces, I think Dr Hauschka wins out, but if you want more of a glow, Madara could be your next favourite tinted moisturiser.

Have you tried either of these face products - what did you think?

Which one do you prefer?

  2. Madara tinting liquid is amazing! Not much coverage and no SPF, but smells fresh and makes my skin glow! The sun flower one has a more yellowish tone though.

    1. Interesting to note the colour diff - swayed towards the Moon as thought it would be paler, but perhaps Sun is worth a go. Thanks! x

  3. I've not tried Madara but the Dr Hauschka one is gorgeous and I love it despite the fact it does have alcohol near the top of it's ingredients list. I'll have to give the Madara one a go as I've heard lots of good things about it.

    1. Same here - only thing is the pot is super small compared to most. But at least I can justify trying out new foundations sooner this way! :) x

  4. I have the Madara moonflower tinting fluid which is perfect for me shade-wise. Really love it for brightening up the skin! The sunflower one is a little darker with a more yellowy undertone so could be worth trying a sample of that one too :) x

    1. I really liked the shimmer it gave me - I will have to look out for a sample of the Sunflower - I'm concerned it might be a bit too dark though! x
