15/07/13: July SoukSouk Box First Impressions

See after the jump to find out what's inside!

Badger Organic Sleep Balm - RRP £4.50 (21g)
I actually already have this balm, but as I've had it for quite a while I'm happy to have a new fresh one.  It's a great calming scent that I've used on many occasions for a little extra soothing at bedtime.

Pure Thoughts Mint & Avocado Foot Repair Balm - RRP £7.95  (50g) (sample sent 10g ~ £1.59)
I've now got another foot balm to add to the sample pot I ordered recently from another company.  It will be interesting to see how this one compares - future blog post methinks?  The Avocado of the name is avocado butter and the Mint is peppermint oil - the main scent.  I can only very slightly detect anything other than mint in this, so I'm not sure why they went for Avocado in the name.  It is, however, pleasant and I'm looking forward to using this on my poor hot feet!

Interestingly, this SoukSouk box includes two items that don't have any certification or even the SoukSouk symbol signifying that free from synthetic chemicals, use natural and organic ingredients and do not test on animals.  This is one of those two although the sheet accompanying the box states that it has 98.5% natural ingredients.

I'm not quite sure what this means, so I'll have to look at the brand website to find out more.  Two of those aren't complete deal-breakers, but testing on animals is.  The scent is citrus-y and fresh.  It didn't rub in too well when I patch tested it, but I'm willing to try again once I've checked out their credentials.

VitaBella Anti-Aging Face Cream - RRP £9.00 (15ml)
This is the other item that isn't certified or SoukSouk stamped, so again I'm intrigued as to what this means and wonder why it's been included? The included sheet also says for this one "N.B. Uses some synthetic ingredients" so I'm definitely wondering why it is in the box as the SoukSouk FAQs say "We support any skincare or cosmetic brand which is trying to do the right thing...reducing its reliance on synthetic chemicals and preservatives to formulate products; and refusing to use ingredients that have been tested on animals. "
I can at least see on the bottom that it isn't tested on animals.

It's a very creamy cream and has an strong "cosmetic" smell that isn't clearly one scent or another.  If I hadn't had it in this box, I probably wouldn't have chosen it for myself, but I plan to take a closer look.  The box also included a sheet on this brand with information on how best to use their products.

This is my favourite product of them all.  I'm really happy to have this as I've been looking for lip colour products and it's one of those things that is hard to choose online.  As you can see in the pictures, it can be built up or washed gently on the lips and is supposed to be colour, balm and gloss in one.  I think I agree with the first but would say it's more of a stain than a balm or gloss.  However, I am open to being proven wrong!  It's vegan, cruelty-free and from a brand I haven't used before.  Win, win, win! :)

Good for me?
I enjoyed this box, even if I am confused by the inclusion of some of the products.  It hasn't been my favourite selection so far, but I am very happy with the balms and excited to learn about Glam Colour Cosmetics.  I would like in future for it to be made clear what size and price the product actually in the box is, as it's always nice to know what you would get/what you would get it for if you were to buy it again.  Oh, and look who I found on the back of the magazine!
Good for you?
If you haven't tried any of the brands, it's a great introduction to their products and a rounded selection of face and body items.  If you are truly against any synthetics, then this box probably won't be your cuppa, but if you can forgive a few, then sign up quick to get your hands on your own set. :)  Also included is a great wallet sized guide to choosing skincare - something I've meant to do for ages and never gotten around to!

What do you think of the selection?  Have you/would you order this box?

    1. I've only got this one, so although it's a shame to get it again, I do like it! x

  2. One of the reasons I haven't signed up to these boxes is they seem to let things slide on the policy about ingredients, that Sranrom brand has no ingredients on their website so I can't even research what they are about.

    1. Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on here. The Sranrom - they seem to have UK and another site - I've found the ingredients are on the .com one. See what you think x

    1. It really is - the colour isn't as bright as I thought it would be from the pot. Very interested to see more of their products. Thanks for reading! :) x

  4. Have you tried the Badger sunscreen? I hear good things about the brand, but know little to nothing about the effectiveness of its sunscreen.

  6. I quite liked this box it was probably my favourite although it is a little confusing about the product ingredients! I absolutely love the badger balm and the lip colour is lush! I have been using the VitaBella cream but it would be interesting to find out about the synthetic ingredients in the product! Great blog post xx

    1. How are you getting on with the vitabella cream? Admit I haven't tried it yet so would be interested to hear about your experience xx

  7. Hmmm.... it must be frustrating they let the ingredients slide sometimes if most of the people who sign up for it want the cleanest stuff possible. Although the Badger Balm is such a nice inclusion :)
