02/08/13: Essential Bodycare!

Like most people, deodorant is something that I will use day in and day out even if I'm hanging around the house in sweatpants with a face like Gollum.  So it is probably the most important item that was on my excellently titled "Products-to replace-with-more-natural-ones-but-only-if-they're-actually-any-good" list.  I started off with the Salt of the Earth Crystal spray and used up the travel bottle I had, but wasn't overly impressed with its efficacy.  So, I moved on to the Incognito crystal stick which has citronella in it - and as I'm fairly cheese like (stinky if left in the heat) I thought this might be a good direction to head in.  However, to apply it, you need wet armpits, which is more time consuming to set up than one might think, and I couldn't actually ever smell the scent.

So, currently, here I am with PitRok.  In addition to the excellent name, it seems to be going quite well.  It has a pleasant fragrance, rolls on easily much like my old anti-perspirant and I'm not grossed out by myself at the end of the day.  Points against it do include that it isn't as simple as the Salt of the Earth or Incognito deos, but for the sake of my nose and those noses around me, I'm prepared to look past this.  I still have the Incognito stick and do use it as well as the PitRok if I remember to not dry off after washing.

Everyday essential for washing aforementioned armpits and rest of body. Mostly use Dr. Bronners - especially the Rose one, delicious! - but currently ensconced in a love affair with Minty Heaven by Eden Be Natural.  See review here.  Not a difficult replacement to find as there's a large variety of alternative soaps available quite easily but these are two of my current favourites.

Not something I remember to look at as you don't particularly expect animals to be in toothpaste, or at least I don't - but some toothpastes will have glycerin derived from animals in.  I like to use toothpaste that can be found in the local independent health store run by veggie-types and who only stock vegetarian products.  I'm currently using Kingfisher who I like because of their method of printing ingredient, source and function on the back of each tube.  It doesn't foam as much as regular pastes, but I don't find this a problem.

In order to help prevent the spread of spots and keep hands fresh I've always been a fan of hand sanitizers and often keep one in my handbag for quickly spritzing whilst on the move.  However, since trying to go more natural I struggled to find one that was vegan and wasn't full of alcohol.  So, it was a nice surprise when I stumbled across this one in town a short while ago.  I hadn't heard of Bentley Organics before, but do keep meaning to investigate the brand further - I've been pleased with this replacement.  Although it states it won't be sticky, I do find that there is a little element of stick after application, but it does dry away quickly so it's not a deal-breaker.  The main ingredient is aloe and the pump action makes it convenient for work or on-the-move.

  3. I also use PitRock - love it first thing in the morning after a shower, bit of a pain during the day though! Trying to find something that doesn't require getting wet first lol xx
