26/08/13: Little bit of an UNE splurge...!

After Caitie at Naturalla Beauty mentioned there was a huge sale on UNE cosmetics at the moment, as a brand I've never tried before I couldn't help picking up a few bits and pieces - and I thought I'd share some swatches for anyone else interested in taking advantage of the sale.
UNE is the younger, more natural sister to Bourjois.  So while I don't reach for those cute eyeshadow pots any more, I can see myself picking up a couple more sliding glimmer boxes.  (Okay, so it's not as cute or catchy to say, but the contents are just as good.)  Their products are ECOCERT certified and lots of them are 100% natural ingredients.

First up, the lips.  There are several ranges, and I picked up two sheer lip balms (S05 and S12) and two lip-toned colours (L02 and L03).  I've only recently starting wearing anything approaching lipstick, so it really appealed to me that the colours aren't bright or flashy - just natural shades which are very close to lip colour - making it easy to find your your lips but better shade.  The sheer balms are similar in tone, just with less pigment.  I'm still trying to work out my favourites, but S05 and L02 are the frontrunners at the moment.

Strangely the balms actually feel creamier in application than the lip-toned colours, but they all apply smoothly.  The pictures below are a fairly accurate representation - you can see that from left to right the tones are red-brown, brown, coral, plum.   I would be interested to see the whole range swatched, especially as I can't quite work out whether the numbering is supposed to mean something!

Next up, the skin glow pencils.  On the website, it's really hard to tell the different between the lighter shades, so I ended up going for them both.  G01 is a more pinky shade, whereas G02 is yellow based.  As you can see, the G01 blends better into my hand, but in honesty on the waterline it's difficult to tell the difference.  Marketed as a kind of highlighter/concealer in a pencil, I've mainly been using them as Caitie uses hers - white eyeliner always made me look a bit mental, and a skin coloured shade makes more sense!  When my eyes are a little red-rimmed from a late night or early start (sometimes both), these little lovelies make me look that little bit more awake.

Finally, I wanted to try out the eyeshadows - I love the packaging, it's so handy and the spring shut keeps the contents where they're supposed to be.  The only colour that really appealed to me was GL01, an iridescent pearl.  I thought that it would be good for highlighting other areas of the face if it didn't work out as an eyeshadow.  The consistency is actually more of a cream than a powder, so although it looks like your average shadow in the box, it turns creamy when you begin to swipe.  The little brush inside is a good idea, but I'll be sticking with my own bdellium brush.

Good for me?
Sales are always excellent ways to try out a large range of products - especially if you can't physically look and touch the items.  I'm quite pleased with my purchases and am looking forward to trying them all out more over the coming weeks.  Although the products aren't as simple as some that I own (eg. some might contain bismuth oxychloride), I think they've done quite a good job making the range appealing to people that might not otherwise consider natural alternatives to cosmetics.

Good for you?
Still quite a good selection left, with prices starting at £1.99 and £1.99 shipping.  If you're looking to start trying out more natural items or just want to get your hands on some, see www.fragrancedirect.co.uk - I know that they've withdrawn from more stores in the UK, but hopefully they'll stick around online.

What do you think?  Is UNE a brand you would use?

    1. There's nothing particularly special about them - and I cant really tell one from the other! But they are very comfortable to wear and I like how natural they are. A good range if you're looking for the perfect my lips but better shade. :) x
