25/11/13: Forget Daddy or Chips, it's Black Cherry vs Cinnamon

One of the first posts that I ever published here was on Hurraw!'s Black Cherry Tinted Lip balm, and I mentioned at the time that I was considering buying their other tinted balm, Cinnamon.  Well, finally I have both in my hands!  So, as I couldn't find a post comparing the two when I was working out which to try first, I thought I'd share a few swatches to help anyone else with the same question.

Although if you wipe the product a couple of times, you can definitely see the difference in strength, I actually really struggled to photograph the difference between the two when applied to the lips.  I do think that when looking in the mirror it's definitely noticeable when I'm wearing the darker Cherry than the Cinnamon, but that might just be me!  Below you can see firstly a heavier application, followed by a light one.  In the light, you can really see how the difference is more subtle the less you apply.  It's worth noting that the root used to give the product its colour will vary, and as such one batch of balms may differ slightly from one to the next.

Good for us?
The scent of each is amazing and the colour is lovely on both, but the Cinnamon contains cassia bark oil, which is very slightly tingly on the lips (mild irritant) and the Cherry is a touch darker.   The cinnamon does have the advantage of perhaps offering a slight plumping effect due to the reaction of the bark oil, but overall, I think I prefer the colour payoff of the darker balm, putting me on #teamcherry.

Which one would you choose?

    1. I had a moment of kindness (weakness...?) and gave the night treatment one I bought to my mother. I agree, it is a lovely smell. Even if I have never heard of blue chamomile before :) x

  3. These both sound like perfect scents for winter, and whilst I'm a bit of a cinnamon addict I'm leaning towards the cherry after your review :) x

  4. Love Hurraw balms but haven't tried the black cherry (serious oversight there, I think). I do love cinnamon but I don't think my lips would like the cassia bark oil so it's #teamcherry for me all the way! x
