04/11/13: The Heartwood Candle Company

I've never really been a candle person.  I appreciate a pleasant waft of incense from time to time, and I like the flickering flames in the autumn and winter darkness, but I've never gone out and bought a candle specifically just for me to enjoy.  And now I think I've been missing out.  The Heartwood Candle Co. are a relatively new business selling natural soy candles, fragranced with gorgeous essential oils.  I was lucky enough to win this outdoor duo earlier on in the year via a twitter competition and have been using them ever since.

These two short candles are scented in Citronella, Eucalyptus and Rosemary, but although this means they are suited to being used outdoors, I've been burning them in my room, in the bathroom, in the conservatory, while I'm studying... everywhere short of taking one in the car with me.  To me the scent is calming but invigorating and has been perfect through the months of revising.  It's not a combination I would think of mixing, but I think it works really well.  Heartwood Candle sell four categories of scent: "Calming and Relaxing", "Invigorating and purifying", "Sensuous and warming" and "Welcoming and uplifting" and some of the combinations sound amazing.  I'm hoping next to try Sweet Orange & Cardamon or the Lemon, Lime and Sweet Fragonia.  I haven't a clue what a fragonia is but the Lemon and Lime sounds awesome!

Good for me?
I've finished up one candle (now using as a jewellery pot) and am part way through the second, but I wanted to wait to post about them until their website was set up so you can see what other varieties they have available.  Although I've been burning them everywhere and anywhere, they've lasted for quite a long time - plus as they're soy their flames burn more cleanly and safer than other waxes, degrade more easily, and come from a renewable source.  I've definitely got them on my list for Christmas :)

Good for you?
Each candle available on their website is probably about twice the size of these little ones, and they start at £18.00 each.  As well as being passionate about using natural ingredients, THWCC also make sure that the packaging they use is as environmentally friendly as possible annnd 10% of  their profits are donated to the Woodland Trust - great stuff.

You can find THWCC here, or interact with them on twitter @heartwoodcandleco

  7. These look fantastic! I'm such a huge fan of soy candles, much less toxic and harsh, especially since they're being burned indoors. Great review, thanks for sharing!
