Argan Oil: The Argan Company

Over the last year I've tried quite a few unscented pure oils for various uses.  I started with just the olive oil that I have in my kitchen and then moved on to jojoba and castor after discovering the oil cleansing method.  But at the moment my favourite oil to use is argan.  I came across it a lot when I was researching the different oils that one could use for skincare, but dismissed it a little as it can be quite expensive in comparison to others.

Argan Oil by the Argan Oil Company* (£12.99 for 30ml) has actually lasted me for quite a good while already, and I'm only about half the bottle down.  I've been using it for a bit of everything and I'm impressed. My favourite usage by far though has to be for my scalp.  I think I've mentioned it more than once on Twitter or in previous posts, but I suffer from a dry and sometimes super-itchy scalp not at all helped by the cold winter air and high heating at work.  Before I turned green I had been using various anti dandruff shampoos to try to tackle the problem but they often just made it worse, and didn't do much for my hair.

After turning green I tried a few of the other oils, and also (briefly and badly) attempted the no-poo method - none of them really made any lasting difference.  But this argan in conjunction with my new shampoo seems to be easing the flaky scratchy-ness.  There's still elements of flakiness but it does seem to be better than it was.  I've been leaving it in my hair before washing and gently brushing with my wooden brush to release the flakes (euch!) and sooth my scalp.

Good for me?
It's a thinner oil that still packs a punch and I'm definitely considering repurchasing when I'm finished with this bottle.   I love that it's in an airless container as it makes dispensing really easy - I love bottles and droppers but they can be messy... plus I can be really clumsy and me + open bottles are a lethal combination!  As well as using it for my scalp, I've actually found that it's even light enough to use as a bit of a serum - other oils that I've tried have been too heavy and make my hair look like I've dunked it in grease.

Good for you?
If you haven't tried argan before and have been put off by other oils, then I recommend trying this one next.  As well as hair you can use it on your face, nails and body - pretty much everything!  A pump of this will go far.

  1. I prefer using argan oil on my skin. It's a bit too heavy for my fine hair x

    1. I do want to try argan on my face but I'm nervous about mixing up my skincare routine, so will stick to hands/arms etc. I love my Pai rosehip but I'm leaning towards a different facial oil at the moment. Thank you for stopping by :) xx

  3. Great post! Argan was one of the first oils I tried. I love how multi-purpose it is and that it works for almost everything - face, hair and body :)

  5. I've tried this brand, I love using it on the ends of my hair but I find that it smells a bit odd? I have a small pot that Rachel bought me in the green beauty swap that smells a lot nicer and I don't think it has a mix of ingredients? Not keen on the smell but it does work great I agree!

    1. Oh, really? I didn't find that it had any sort of noticeable scent... what sort of smell was it? Glad the other brand worked for you! x

  6. You've just reminded me that I need to pick up a new pure Argan oil. I have a couple of 'blended' ones for haircare purposes but nothing beats the proper stuff! x
