29/03/14: Current Skincare Routine

Several months ago, I shared a couple of photos on Twitter.  My skin at that time was playing up, and I was suffering with acne, most prominently on my cheekbones.  Since then, I have tried several new ways to help my skin including finding a proper skincare routine... and I think I've found the one that works for me!  I've taken some pictures today to show you my skin now, and although I still have residual scarring there are no active spots and I'm hoping that the red patches will eventually fade.

18/03/14: A scrub-down smackdown!

There's a strong possibility that I'll be moving house soon, so I've started trying to look at areas of my room, working out where there are items that I can get rid of, or sort into groups.  One area is obviously my dresser, which has all the usual items as well as a few strays... one pink sock, a badge... and I've been tidying it up a bit this week.  In doing so, I realised that I have more than a few skin scrubs, so I thought I'd put them up against each other in... a product specific smackdown!

13/03/14: Scruffy Chops Shampoo and Conditioner

For some the green beauty ethos extends past our own skin and affects not only the choices we make with regard to haircare, cosmetics and cleansers but also influences household cleaning, food and general healthcare products.  However, I haven't yet read many reviews of products for the furry friends in our lives - for me, this means my chocolate Lab, Sophia.

Scruffy Chops is a company that offers products for washing and conditioning your dog using ingredients closer to what I perhaps might choose to use on my own skin.  As it's been so cold recently and Sophia's a large pup that requires washing outside, it's not been feasible to thoroughly test the product, but as she loves a good cow butt or muddy puddle it became necessary - and we sure gave it our best.

Scruffy Chops Sugar Doggy Brown Sugar Shampoo* £5.99 first and foremost smells a-MAZE-ing.  I'd use this stuff on my hair.  It smells like an awesome Creme Brulee and I really enjoyed using it.  Like greener human shampoos it doesn't froth particularly well, which is noticeable when you're trying to wash a large lab with hair across a large surface area.  I had to add water a couple of times to re-froth and had to be more careful with placement of the shampoo to start with to make sure that there was even coverage.  I found it hardest to get good foaming on her underside, but that's not unusual.

I followed it up with Scruffy Chops Conditioner in Muddy Marvellous* £6.99 which again, smells better than most human conditioners.  It's a sweet coconut-y scent that I really enjoyed using.  As with conditioners on human hair, you're not going to find it a doddle to spread, but mixing in a little extra water in the middle did help.

Good for me (& Sophia?) Although Sophia probably doesn't care what is used on her coat, there is the element to consider that I'm coming into contact with the product when using it, and as it's effective without the consideration of it being a "greener" item, then it might be worth buying.  Plus she smelt fantastic for a considerable time after, which is always appreciated!  The packaging is very wet-hand-outdoors-in-a-hurry friendly, and the brilliant scents made it a pleasure to use.

There are ingredients in it that some may hesitate over - it does have phenoxyethanol for example - but for me in comparison to what I've used on Sophia before, this was definitely more of a treat and the price is comparable to other animal shampoos.

Does your green routine extend to the furry friends in your life?  Let me know!
