02/05/2014: In My Back Yard

[Please feel free to use the image above if you decide to write a #mybackyard post!]

Over the weekend I spotted a post from Bodhi on twitter talking about how much British Skincare features in our collections - which then turned into a conversation about the brands and products that are available locally to us.  In Gloucestershire, I'm lucky to be surrounded by quite a few smaller natural and green businesses, as well as some bigger names, so I thought that I would share with you what can be found near to me and began to jot down a list.   Karen at In my humble opinion who also participated wrote her own post inspired by this theme, titled "What's in your back yard", inviting others to post about their local brands. After reading that, I thought rather than doubling up, I'd combine my original post with a response post - so, without further do...

Okay, maybe a little ado.

Drum roll please...

Peppy Galore
Just over the border in Bristol, Peppy Galore is a fresh brand that many bloggers have on their radar for their distinct ranges and to the point ethos - natural skincare for ladies who don't take crap!  I sampled some of  their products recently and the stand out for me was the Fruit Punch Body Mousse.  I can't stress how gorgeous this smells - and how wonderfully easy it is to use.  It sinks in like a dream and leaves skin super smooth and soft.  Definitely have my eye on a full-size pot... the only question is whether to buy two. :)

Based in Tetbury, I've known of this brand since I first starting searching for natural skincare, but have yet to sample any of her products.  She has a huge range, including body oils, cleansers, hand care and candles. Standing out to me is the Hedgerow Beauty line which boasts products where over 95% of the ingredients are sourced from and processed in the UK.

Based in Cheltenham PHB has a massive selection of skincare and cosmetic products available through their website (apparently they launched with a collection of over 200 products!) and has been running since 2012 when entrepreneur Rose Brown decided enough was enough with the animal tested, chemical laden beauty products widely marketed and available in stores everywhere.  As well as eschewing SLS, animal products, parabens and talc among others, the stuff that they do put into their products sounds delicious - Seaweed and Mint or Aloe and Strawberry anyone?

Another Cheltenham based brand, Balmology has featured on many a blogger post and in many tweets on my feed.  Every time I look at their website I'm struck by the gorgeous packaging of these balms and the simple but tantalising scents and ingredients.  I had the chance to sample their Comfort Balm at the Samsara Christmas party - and Pampered Prince and Bare Faced Chic are both fans.

And that's my yard, people!  I'm sure there are quite a few more around here, so I'm interested to see what  brands those of you living nearby come up with.  Something I realised while writing this is that although I do have a large concentration of products from the UK, I could definitely be supporting my local brands more!  I hope you enjoyed seeing my back yard - I look forward to reading others.  :)

  6. This is such an interesting talking point - I need to have a sit down and think about what brands might be close to me (I know Bodhi's one of them, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head just yet!) x
