31/10/14: Ilia New Releases - Swatches & First Impressions

A very short little undrafted post to show you some of the new products and shades that Ilia have releaseed.  You might have seen me on Twitter banging on about the new tinted moisturisers that I was eager to try out.  Well, thanks to the excellent sample service that Amazingy provide, I was able to get my paws on two tinted moisturiser shades and the new lip colours (€7.95 for 5).  Amazingy also add samples to your sample order(!) and on this occasion kindly rounded out the selection with two of the Ilia concealers.

Firstly the tinted moisturisers and concealers.  I requested T1 (Los Roques) and T2 (Belle Mare) and also received C1 (Cassava) and C2 (Maca).

T1 is a very pale shade, paler than it looks on the website.  I think it has a hint of pink and would work on the palest skins.  Although I am pale, I think this would work better on those paler than me with a pink undertone.  T2 on the other hand is almost as pale but with a mild yellow base.  I think of the two this one looks from the swatch like it will suit me better.  However, the watery consistency of the product means that neither of them would look completely orange/white on me - it's a very very sheer and light coverage.  In the picture below I deliberately added quite a lot to a small area to give an idea of the colour.  This is one that I would definitely need to apply with my fingers though, my brushes just eat it up.

C1 and C2 are a little different - more pigmented but also a lot darker and a bit chalky looking.  I can't help feel that if you were a T1, you're a bit screwed on finding a concealer to match within the Ilia range.  Neither of them look particularly like they would suit me, but I'm willing at least to give C1 a go.  I think C2 is just far too orange and dark for me. I'm reserving judgement for now but on first impressions the concealers aren't my bag.

Onto the lip colours!  The two new additions this season are Strike It Up and Linger (Limited Edition) and I am in love with the former.  I am so happy to see that unlike Linger it is going to be a permanent addition to the line.

Strike It Up is just the perfect red.  Although described as cool-toned with blue undertones, for me it reads very warm and raspberry like.  My only issue is that because it's a lipstick and not a conditioner it is sadly more drying than I would like.  It also does seem to face very quickly.  However, I think this is one that I am going to have to purchase anyway and make it work... just love the colour!  On the other hand Linger is not one I will be purchasing - it reminds me of a shade I already have and I'm not blown away by it.  For a post solely on Strike It Up, check out Lilly's post here.

Have you taken the plunge with any of the full size products?  What are your thoughts?

  1. I'm so glad you posted this! I'd been eyeing the new concealer, but I don't think either of those would be a match for my pale self. Disappointing! You'll have to update us once you've had a chance to try them out some more. Strike it Up looks fantastic - like the perfect holiday red :)

    1. Silicones aren't something that I've looked much into; thank you for mentioning it, I will be investigating! It sounds like they could be clogging of the pores? x

  3. The concealers are soooo much darker than the tints! Crazy! Love the look of Strike it Up though!

    1. I didn't either until Liz from Smellslikeagreenspirit recommended them. I think it's excellent value for money, especially considering that you can get samples of very high-end lines like May Lindstrom x

    1. Hey! You're very welcome - I'm glad that you liked the swatches. That's a shame about them having silicone in, as it seems to be something that quite a few green beauties try to avoid in their skincare. x

  6. I have strike it up and i really love it.
I'd also "snob" linger as it reminds me '90 feeling hahaha.
The concealer is my fav product though! It cover very well some redness here and there!

    Kisses:)
