12/04/15: Bin, Gift, Repurpose #2

Hallo!  It's been a while since I've done one of these, but looking through my skincare drawer recently I realised that I have held onto quite a few things (by which I mean a tonne) that I should probably let go.  So without further ado, here's a (quite hefty) low down of what I'm saying sayonara to this month.

Benecos Day Cream:  This came in the Green Beauty Meet Up goody bag back in October 2014 but I'm afraid I've become a bit of a face care snob, and I just don't want to use this on my temperamental skin as I've got a couple of moisturisers already that I'm happy with.  It's a perfectly acceptable cream that I think I'll put towards my dry elbows and knees, but I won't be using it on my face.  Repurpose.

John Masters Organics Rosemary and Lavender Shampoo:  I've never had a full size bottle of any JMO but I have gone through numerous sachets, so I picked up one of their travel sets back in July of last year to get a better idea of whether I felt I should spend the £££ on a proper bottle. Unfortunately I didn't get around to using this one before my sensitivity to potassium sorbate emerged, so I've passed it on to someone else. Gift.

Eve St Agnes Facial Silk and Refining Exfoliator: These arrived in a Souk Souk box of yesteryear and I just wasn't taken with them.  I used them a couple of times, but I think they're well past their 6 month use by date.  I might keep the glass pots, but otherwise these are going in the bin.  Bin.

Peppy Galore Nurse Peppy:  Back when Peppy Galore were still up and running, they had a customisable sample set available that quite a few bloggers an non-bloggers alike snapped up.  I enjoyed the other pots (moisturiser and body mousse) but didn't ever find that burning desire to use this one up.  It's now a few months past its use by and doesn't look too good!  The ingredients were simple and great, but it just wasn't for me.  Bin.

The Argan Company Argan Oil*:  I liked this and reviewed it a while back. Although the use by date is 36m after opening mine is definitely smelling funkier than I want anything that's going on my body to be.  It's been well used in the hair, face masks and just straight out of the bottle so it's a shame that the last couple of cm isn't useable.  Bin.

Living Nature Nature's Hydrating Mist:  This was available on mypure last year at about half price.  It's a mist heavy with manuka which my skin seems to like and I really enjoyed using it.  Unfortunately the reason it was so discounted was that they were discontinuing the product.  I tried tweeting Living Nature to see if they were replacing it or reformulating it but as yet haven't heard anything and I haven't spotted anything similar in their range.  It's now empty, so I'm saying goodbye but will be keeping an eye out in case it makes a return. Bin.

ila Day Cream for Glowing Radiance:  This was part of the Beauty Shortlist prize I won but I never really got around to using it.  It smelt great to start with although some of that scent has faded now.  By the time I did come to taking a proper look at it it felt a bit too heavy for my skin so I put it away again, and now I've realised that it has potassium sorbate in, so it's following the John Masters on this one straight into the bin.  Bin.

NatOrigin Hand and Cuticle Cream:  Nothing notably good or bad about this product but I'm just too much in love with the Bodhi and Birch hand oil to use this up.  Hand creams have never been my bag, so I'll be passing this on.  Gift.

Herbylicious Solid Perfume:  Picked this up at a local farmers market for about a pound when the company were closing down.  Smelled good but is a bit old now, so probably time to get rid. Bin.

Melvita Mask and Brightening Cream/Balance Me Exfoliator:  Bought these sample sizes from Latest in Beauty.  I liked them okay and they did feel leave my skin soft and silky but they're  all definitely past the 6 month best by date!  Bin.

Pai Chamomile & Rosehip Mosturiser: I've tried one of these pots before, but can't remember whether I picked this up for Naturisimo or was gifted it... I didn't know I had it, so I don't know how old it is and don't want to risk it on my face.  Will probably put it towards my dry elbows as it's only a little sample.  When I used it before I did like it and I think I might try it out again in the future.  Can't go wrong with a bit of Pai. Repurpose.

ila Face Oil for Glowing Radiance:  Another one from the Little Treats set I won.  This always felt too heavy for my face and it's got a very strong scent.  I did like how luxurious it was but never used up the whole tube and again, it's now out of date and the oil is starting to smell a bit off.  Bin.

John Masters Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash: I frigging love this scent and have the moisturiser mini tucked in my desk at work for quick scensual pick me ups during the day.  Sadly the body wash version is preserved with... all together now... potassium sorbate, so it's not staying in my collection.  It was completely unused so has gone to a new home.  Gift.

Dr Alkaitis Day and Night Cream:  I received these in a Souk Souk box and really liked the scent and did use them on my neck for a short while. Unfortunately the consistency meant that about half way down they became very difficult to get out of the tubes.  They're old now and should definitely have left my collection several months back!  Bin.

Green Beaver Grapefruit Cleanser and Green Tea Facial Cream:  Of all of the above these are the ones I'm sad to see go.  I received them as part of a gift package from the lovely Caitie at Naturalla Beauty and I used up one of the little set of three a while back.  Sadly these two have PS in and as face products it's just a no-go for me.  The grapefruit one I'm especially sad about as it smells so good!  As they've only been opened and sniffed I will see if I can find a loving home for these.  Gift.

Phew!  And that's the lot!  My skincare drawer is definitely a little less cluttered now (all the more room for new stuff...!!) and there were definitely items that I was just holding on to for no good reason that it's been good to clear out.

Is there anything there that you would have used straight up, or that didn't work for you at all?

  1. I did a big clear out around the beginning of the year, but I've been debating doing a second round soon. It feels so nice to get rid of the excess clutter. I'm glad you were able to figure out what you were reacting to, but I don't envy you having to avoid potassium sorbate - it really pops up in SO many products!

  2. I love that you are a "face care snob" :D It's good to have a clear out, I did the same and my Sister was very excited to receive a bag full of goodies

  3. Ohhh this was a really interesting post! I love clearing out my skincare nearly as much as I love buying it... a spring clean is always good, and my friends always appreciate the free samples :D

  4. I knnoooooowww - but in a way it's sorta helpful - it stops me wanting to buy ALL OF THE THINGS! :D It does feel good, though I do wish I was able to hold back off of collecting so many samples! x

  5. :D It's quite funny considering that when I first started using skincare I wouldn't pay more than a fiver for a moisturiser...! x

  6. Glad you enjoyed it, I hadn't realised that it was over a year since my last one :O xx

  7. Love the concept of this post, it's really cool! Very interesting to read what you haven't enjoyed as well as what you are happy to gift. There's a few products that I've been eyeing lately but I'm now properly informed. Also, glad you mentioned about potassium sorbate because I completely forgot to keep an eye out for this on ingredients lists! X

  8. Thanks! :) I'm rubbish at empties so this is the next best thing! Which products have you been eyeing? It's a real pain about the potassium sorb as it is in so many green products xx

  9. You're welcome :) I was really interested in the John Masters shampoo as I tried a sachet of their hair milk which was amazing! Also Pai moisturiser as I've seen so many people saying great things about Pai but I've not tried anything from their range yet :) x x
